Strategic communications consultant and former head of communications at HM Customs and Excise
When the new Labour Government came to power in 1997 it was an article of faith that communications should go hand in hand with policy formation. The critics have said this has gone too far with an over-reliance on “spin”. Although this may sometimes be a valid argument at the centre of government, far too many departments and organisations still see communications as an “add on”. Peter will argue that an integration of communications with the policy making process is essential to both the public and private sectors. He will show how failure to heed this imperative has had practical consequences on the delivery of a significant policy.
